Home Humidifier – The Best Friend During Winter Season

Home Humidifier – The Best Friend During Winter Season

As the cool wind increases, the moisture present in the air decreases. The air gets drier. So to make the atmosphere of the house warm and to add the moisture in the air, whole home humidifier is used. Every type of home humidifier has its own pro’s and con’s.

best whole home humidifier

Pro’s of having a whole home humidifier

  • Energy efficiency

Turning up the thermostat will surely raise the temperature in your home but it won’t make you feel warmer. By installing a whole house humidifier, you can feel warm even at lower temperature. It is also easy to install. It can be installed either in a new heating system or in existing cooling system. According to the EPA, you can save up to 4% on your heating bill for every degree you lower your thermostat.

  • Health

Many viruses develop in the low humidity environments, which can increase the chances of causing flu, cold, cough and other respiratory problems.  And an overly dry environment can make people more susceptible to infection. Putting humidity back into your home can reduce the incidence of all this illness.

  • Secures from damaging

During winter, due to the dry air, there are chances of damaging wooden furniture, plasters, paints, artwork, and musical instruments.  A whole house humidifier therefore protects your house and its contents from the adverse effects of dry air during the winter season.

  • Provides optimal moisture levels

The whole home humidifier is placed to increase the moisturizer in the air. It changes the dry air to moisturised air. The humidifier ensures that every room in the house has the optimal level of moisture which comforts you and your family members.

  • No need to refill

Like a heating, you don’t need to refill the water whenever it gets empty. It is directly linked to the water line, so whenever water is needed it will grab from there. You can have the humidifier installed knowing your humidity levels will take care of themselves.

  • It is quiet and invisible

A whole house system is hidden away so that nobody even knows that the home humidifier is placed there. They are also very quiet, unlike their portable humidifier counterparts.

Con’s of having a whole home humidifier

  • Requires maintenance

Because any humidifier comes in contact with water, maintenance is required for your whole house unit as well. Especially if your water supply is on the hard side, mineral deposits can form and require your attention. Typically at the end of the winter, a thorough cleaning with a solution of white vinegar is needed.

  • Cost

Whole house humidifiers can be expensive at the start. However, if you think about how many of those small portable units you may have to buy in your lifetime (and the hassle to refill them daily), you will probably realize the cost will be well worth it in the end.

  • Not used daily

As it is used only in winter season, when their is less or no presence of moisturizer, it is of no use during other seasons. Once it is used in a winter season, then you need to wait for next year to use it. Purchasing it with high price and using just for 2-3 months makes a big question for all. But at the same time, it is useful to the people who faces continuous or frequent cold.

  • Installation

A downside to a whole house humidifier is that it is more expensive to install than a small personal humidifier. You will likely need an expert to install a whole house humidifier correctly. That said, the cost can be made up with resale value and even by non-quantifiable returns, like increased home comfort.

  • White dust

When the minerals in water are evaporated they fall as white dust in your home. Although the effects of breathing the dust are unknown, it is believed to be potentially unhealthy. This can be avoided by using distilled water, which has less mineral content than tap or bottled water.

  • Excess moisture

Occasionally when a humidifier is not self-regulated it will put out too much moist air. Humidifiers on the market which are handy gadgets that measure the humidity in your home are available and well worth the extra cost since overly moist air is just as bad, or worse, than air that is too dry. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends humidity levels of no more than 50% for the home, but 45% is most comfortable.

If you equate winter with static electricity, scratchy throats and chapped lips, then you may be a preferring to install an air humidifier in your home. Because cold air cannot hold as much moisture as warm air, humidity levels are very low when temperatures outdoor dip below freezing. The discomfort level is felt even more keenly with heated air indoors. So before placing a best whole home humidifier, make sure regarding the above mentioned pro’s and con’s so that you will be knowing before installing it. If you are not aware of both benefits and drawbacks then it will create a mess while using the humidifier.
